Jordan Cortazzo on why we can't wait for Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA V) to (finally) be released on PC in March 2015.
GTA 5 was the most anticipated and not to mention most celebrated game of 2013 with nothing but double thumbs up all round. 2014 saw the release of the critically acclaimed franchise hit next generation consoles. The games second release also received nothing but praise, and saw a silver lining to the inevitable question, “When will it make it’s way to PC?”.
Despite the outlandish amount of waiting we have all done for the PC release, here are a few reasons it’s all going to be worth it:
When GTA 5 remastered was first teased at E3 2014, we were all blown away by the games jaw dropping visuals. It’s first release looked pretty flawless, but Rockstar went over and above to ensure that the world of Los Santos looked and felt even more like a living and breathing metropolis. The game cranked all it’s characteristics up to 11, with what felt like 10x more cars on the road, 50x more people and 100x general stupidity. The resolution made a big leap up to 1080p on the ps4 compared to it’s original 720p counterpart, but let’s be honest, it looked great from the get go, this just leaves it looking pristine.
The most notable change and one of the most unique that’s ever been incorporated into a re-release was the introduction of first person camera. Players were given a choice on whether they wanted to stick to the traditional third person angle that GTA 5 is so renowned for, or replay the entirety of the game from the eyes of their favourite psychopathic trio.
Playing GTA 5 remastered in first person mode made me experience something that I’d rarely felt when playing the GTA series. I found myself exploring each individual room, reading the individual posters that were stuck to a wall, or actually browsing through the contents of the convenience store as opposed to holding a gun at the attendant until he empties the cash register. The biggest change I noticed was that I had stopped killing so mindlessly, and had actually developed a sense of humanity. Here was a character I had known so well, and grown so connected to, and suddenly I was seeing Los Santos through an entirely new pair of eyes, I didn’t want this character to die, let alone kill.
The game was revered for this entirely new dimension it brought to the players. People were suddenly questioning what this could mean for the series. From something that once was a birds eye view pseudo-massochistic retro RPG, it had turned the tables and was now venturing into the world of something more like ‘Gone Home’, a game that places the player in the eyes of a character returning to a decrepit house with mysteries waiting around each corner. This means big things for Rockstar. The series is evolving.
Which is what brings me to why I’m so excited about the PC release. With all the additional content brought to the ps4 and xbox one version of the game, it’s only a spec of what can be achieved in the PC version. As we all know, some of GTA 4’s best moments were the mods that players brought to it on PC. What will they bring to a game that has revolutionised the Grand Theft Auto series for good? The PC version of GTA 5 will feature everything that the ps4 and xbox one version featured and more. The game runs at a stunning 1080p resolution, with 60fps, and can be played at 4k resolution as well as also being able to support NVIDIA 3d Vision. Rockstar has stated that the game is due to be released March 24th, 2015. Whether you currently own a copy of GTA 5, or you’ve played it through it’s first release, it’s definitely going to be worth getting a copy of it when it’s released for the last time on PC.
